EARNED NOT TAKEN

When you earn something- it’s yours, no one can take it from you. You’ve claimed it. And that’s the prize.

I feel like we live in an age where a lot of things are given and not earned, and its sad.

But can you guess that currently I’m struggling with what it feels to remain motivated in an age where nothing is earned. Yes that’s right, its hard man! I’m steadily seeing on my social media feed individuals who have become over night successes and here I am just trying to inspire through style and creativity with a much lesser audience- and I’m starting to feel discouraged. Yup, discouraged.

But ENTER one of my best friends this morning with a few gems – she actually told me two very important points to keep at the forefront of my mind from now on with building this platform. She said to me :

1. “Treat your brand like a marriage or a child“: How do you expect it to grow if you’re not going to be focused on it like you would a person in a brand new relationship. You would spend every waking minute focused on him right?- So why not your brand? – SO TRUE!

2. “CONTINUE, don’t let the enemy take you off track”: negative thoughts enter our mind daily. I feel that the key is remember WHY you started and to CONTINUE, be faithful, have integrity, be transparent and the gifts will come.

Thank God I have a great support system, because on a daily basis, I question my true purpose.

However, when I think of the human side of things, I have to remember that feelings of discouragement/”unmotivation” are NATURAL. It can very much mean that you are on the brink of a creative breakthrough! Whose to know?

What I do know is the how much prayer has assisted me in my darkest moments during unsure trials and tribulations. It’s so easy for us to get side tracked from what is important. But let me just tell you I find a way to say a prayer and talk to God about what is on my heart. He always listens. Even at times when I think I have prayed about something and nothing is happening or no result has been yielded. In walks my FAITH. My point is: in this age where nothing usually earned, I was reminded today by my sister to continue, have faith and God will show up!

  1. Comparison is the thief of joy. I’ve really had to learn that working in tech. Everyone’s path is different. Sometimes I feel like I’m building the Eiffel Tower with a butter knife. Thanks for the reminder that persistence and faith are key!

  2. Thank you so much for this post. I truly needed the reminder. I have so many ideas and desires to advocate for others and I haven’t found a way to get started. I know this is my purpose. Prayer is something that I always depend on so why not ask God to guide me in the vision He has given me. Duh…. It’s always nice to have a friendly reminder of the things you already know. Hearing it from someone who is/has gone through the same is reassuring that it is a process, and that everything will work out for the good.

I love reading your post! Keep inspiring doll.

    1. You’re welcome babe! I’m just here living, trying to inspire the best way God shows me. It’s not easy and I have many days of discouragement and despair, but I believe we were all placed here to connect, uplift and guide each other. The sooner we all realize that there’s enough for all of us to win, then we can start the process. We have to do the work and it doesn’t happen overnight. Xo
